Laura Laine has a remarkable rhythm to her drawings. They seem to meander into elegant shapes. I find them highly entertaining and quite lovely. I’m quite jealous really.

I’m a big fan of French (via Montreal) illustrators and Emmanuelle is no exception to that rule. Her work at Gobelins and character designs are full of charm and wit. The wallpaper on her homepage is worth the visit: EmmanuelleWalker.com. (Emmanuelle draws a cute girl.)

Her Vimeo page has the “making of” of the animation above if you’re interested. And Blog.

ghosts

Kazuki Takamatsu makes an interesting image. They’re ghostly sculptures of anime characters, machines and underwear. I have no idea what his personal art story is but the stuff is compelling. Oddly enough it looks like 3D rendered with a super simple lighting setup. Very clever.

Visit his portfolio site here.

This is the new Visionaire magazine. It’s a pop-up book in all regards, from the magnetic latch cover to the individual folios by Sophie Calle, Nicola Formichetti with Gareth Pugh, Cai Guo-Quiang, Andreas Gursky, Steven Klein, Yayoi Kusama, Alasdair McLellan, Steven Meisel, Guido Mocafico, Solve Sundsbo and Mario Testino. It’s a remarkable design. I am inspired today and it’s yours for $250. Not bad for a limited edition art book.

I’m not a fan of the song but their stage show design at the European MTV Awards was fairly spectacular. Looks like fun.

I bumped into Mr McNaught from Bristol, England quite happily today. Well, his portfolio & blog to be more precise. I’m very, very far away from Bristol so that would have been quite the bump. I digress. This print maker and illustrator is excellent. His simple, lyrical and wonderful images are hand-made and are quite fantastical. And I don’t hand that out at the drop of a hat. Or giant monster foot as in Mr McNaught’s case.

It’s like drawing a car. But it’s a man. That can fly. And shag. It was a cool film.

The Beguiling

We have all seen pixel art, however, I do believe these are the most elegant pushed pixels I have seen. The logical conclusion of the pixel as it were. My guess is, if you make pictures, you’ll be wondering how you can be so wasteful with your pixels when compared to the subtle touch of published and acclaimed illustrator, Craig Adams. Craig is also a concept artist for the gaming world, his character designs are pretty darn excellent, so make sure you look around his site properly.
